MATEO CHAVEZ LEWIS (He/They) is a professional Composer/Lyricist, Performer, and Music Director, working in the musical theatre industry Off-Broadway and internationally.

Using a blend of popular music and traditional musical theatre styles, Mateo strives to tell unabashedly emotional stories, centering and celebrating intelligent misfits who defy the systems that tell them who to be. His aim is to re-define the contemporary American musical as a work of literature — one that can be consumed online in addition to live performance.

He is best known as the Music Director of Heated Rivalry: the Unauthorized Musical Parody (Off-Broadway) and as Composer of The Opening, for which he received the Players’ Theatre Residency Award. He is a co-producer on the cast album of Heated Rivalry: the Unauthorized Musical Parody, which debuted at #1 on Apple Music Soundtracks.

He was also the Music Director of the Premiere Canadian Production of Bring It On: the Musical, and performed across Canada as Jinx in Forever Plaid and Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet.
